Visual identity: why your print, shopfront and website should speak the same language
Logo, colours, typography: a consistent visual identity across all your materials builds trust and brand recognition. Our advice on getting there.
Jihane

A customer discovers your business on Instagram, looks up your address on Google, walks past your shopfront, then receives your business card. At each step, they form an impression of your brand. If the logo changes colour from one medium to the next, or the shopfront looks nothing like the website, trust erodes. A consistent visual identity is what turns a series of materials into a recognisable brand.
Visual identity is much more than a logo
The logo is only the starting point. A complete identity includes:
- a colour palette, with specific uses for each colour;
- one or two typefaces, for headings and body text;
- rules for layout, spacing and image style;
- logo variations: colour, black, white and a compact version for icons.
These elements are gathered in brand guidelines: a simple guide that anyone producing material, in-house or at a supplier, can follow without getting it wrong.
Three channels, one image
Business cards, flyers, catalogues, menus, packaging: printed materials remain essential, especially in food service and retail. Their quality depends as much on the design as on file preparation (bleed, colour profiles, paper choice).
Shopfront and signage
Your sign and window are often the first physical contact with your brand. They must be readable from a distance, day and night, and faithfully reflect your colours and logo. A visual mock-up before works begin avoids unpleasant surprises once the sign is installed.
Website and apps
On screen, your identity carries through to the interface: button colours, heading hierarchy, icons and illustrations. An interface designed from your brand guidelines (UI) and organised around your customers' needs (UX) strengthens brand recognition while making navigation easier.
Why entrust everything to one team
When the logo, print, shopfront and website are designed by different people, each interprets the brand in their own way. Entrusting everything to one team ensures seamless continuity between paper, street and screen, and cuts down on back-and-forth.
At Exisite, graphic design and interface design are handled in-house by the same designer. Printing, sign manufacturing and installation are entrusted to partners we select and coordinate through to the final result.
Where to start?
If your brand already exists, an audit of your current materials highlights inconsistencies and helps prioritise what needs aligning. If you are launching a business, it is the perfect time to build a strong identity from the outset.
